The story of our first collaboration
When a client requests that I reproduce an antique necklace...
The first thing that seemed evident to me in the making of this piece of jewellery was that I was going to have to collaborate with an jewellery with vast experience in ancestral techniques, which are unfortunately no longer taught in our western schools.
I decided to associate myself with a Senegalese jeweller friend, Mamadou, whom I knew used this ancient methods daily in his work. Collaborating with him is truly amazing and it enabled me to honour my client's brief.
I spent one month in his workshop in Senegal to create this historical replica. Faced with a phenomenal amount of work, Mamadou called in support from his uncle Dema and his cousin Amadi, both jewellers from father to son.
The necklace was made in silver, then coated with fine gold in a Geneva workshop andto immortalise this adventure, we made a documentary film about the whole process. which is played during our events. To stay in touch, just follow me on the different social networks!
We also did a photo and video reportage which you will find in the dedicated articles below.
